Aluminum Storage Tips For Fabricators

Blog

Aluminum is an essential metal for many fabricators. However, in order for it to maintain its amazing qualities and workability, storage methods have to always be sound. If you have aluminum on your fabrication site, take these storage measures when you can.

Keep Inside if Possible

The best place for aluminum materials that sit for an extended period of time is going to be inside somewhere. Then aluminum will have much more protection and probably hold up just fine compared to if you just left your aluminum outside where it could get damaged in many ways.

Even if you don't have a lot of room inside a shop or warehouse, you need to figure out a location that's going to give you optimal protection for the length of time that it remains on your site. You might have to switch the layout a bit or get rid of other materials that you don't really have a use for.

Be Careful with Transportation

Sometimes it will be necessary to move aluminum around to get it to the ideal storage location. You don't want to just go through the motions with this transportation because then your aluminum materials are more than likely going to damage. You need to be very careful with what you do and what you use for transportation.

For instance, if you're trying to move large aluminum sheets, it's probably better to use some sort of cart that saves you from lifting the potentially heavy pieces by hand. Or if you're trying to move a lot of aluminum bars in a container, a forklift would help you transport these materials safely.

Cover Aluminum Up

Even if you do plan on putting aluminum inside some sort of building, such as a shed or workshop, it's still a good idea to place some type of covering over the aluminum. That's going to give it even more protection and total protection from moisture, which you don't want affecting this material.

You can use tarps or even plastic sheets to provide more protection to your aluminum. Just make sure the cover goes over the aluminum completely and is able to stay secure until you need this metal.

Aluminum is probably an amazing material that you'll spend good money on as a fabricator over the years. When you actually care about the way it's stored, you're not going to have as many problems with it.
